SOMOS – an auditioned womyn’s vocal ensemble

We are a small group of women singers devoted to songs of the heart and the enjoyment of singing and sharing our love of music with each other and our audiences. Although most of our current repertoire is a cappella we would welcome new singers who could play other instruments as well. Rather than using a traditional “choir” system, our musical director/muse Louise n’ha Ruby encourages each of us to develop our own unique abilities as soloists as well as ensemble members. This open structure allows any of us to propose repertoire for the group and provides an ongoing opportunity to contribute our ideas for arrangements and interpretations during rehearsals. We support everyone’s input and especially value the sense of individual responsibility and ownership of our ensemble.
