Free Supports for Video Gaming/ Gambling
I work with the Province of British Columbia’s Responsible and Problem Gambling Program. I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself and the services that the program offers. The program is committed to encouraging responsible video gaming and gambling practices and providing treatment if any of these activities becomes a problem for an individual or family. These issues can lead to financial hardship, relationship problems, and emotional and psychological concerns that can affect individuals, families and communities.
Clinical counselling services are available to people who have a problem with video gaming or gambling and those affected, including close friends, family, partners or spouses. Confidential counselling is delivered free of charge throughout the province, either in person or by telephone. Couples, group counselling and day treatment services are also available. To reduce barriers to counselling, transportation assistance and translation services may be arranged.
Education, awareness and prevention services are also available to communities throughout BC. Services include specific programming for:
- Children & Youth K-12, including Peer Helping and/or Student Leadership Program training
- Parent Groups, including PACs
- Community Professionals
- Treatment Programs
- College and University Programs, Classes, and Counselling Programs
- Older Adults and Older Adult Organizations
- Aboriginal Schools, Treatment Programs and Community Groups
Other prevention and educational programming is available upon request. We will work with your group to ensure messaging regarding responsible and/or problem video gaming and gambling awareness meets your group’s needs. All services can be accessed through the BC Problem Gambling Help Line at 1.888.795.6111. Help Line staff will give you the name and number of a service provider in your area. The Help Line is open 24 hours per day, seven days a week, and services are available in 13 different languages. I look forward to hearing from you. Please do not hesitate to contact me for information or for services, either at the number attached below or through the BC Problem Gambling Help Line.
Sincerely,
